Local highlights

Village life

Colourful hustle and bustle in the lanes of this culturally rich village. A good drop of wine swirling in a glass. Loud laughter. Groups of people standing together telling each other the highlights of their day. But now we're going to tell you about the highlights of the wine village of Tramin.

Even the otherwise dreamy Tramin can be different! When the locals get together to chat, to drink wine, to be together. When the town band plays a traditional concert in the main square and the people of Tramin march through the village in their traditional costumes. This is the case during the main festivals of the year. The very special ones that people talk about for weeks in advance. For which everyone takes their time. Because that is when history is made in Tramin.

Traminer Weingassl

An old lane lined with historic houses is bursting at the seams with stands and stalls: decorated with vines and branches, covered in white. Behind each one, a winegrower presents his fine wines. The guest can taste them. A sip of white here, a sip of red there. Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, Vernatsch, Merlot. The Traminer Weingassl takes place every year in October. Almost all Tramin wines can be tasted here. From those of the Tramin Wine Co-operative, which is known far beyond the borders, to those of the smaller wineries for which winemaking is a second source of income or a wonderful hobby. If you are a self-confessed lover of this charming grape juice, you should not miss the Traminer Weingassl. If you are not, you will become one.

Village life in S'Tramin

Live music rings in your ears - sometimes rock, sometimes instrumental. And sometimes it's folk songs that make you want to sing along. The smell of freshly cooked food fills the streets and alleys. Every Wednesday during the summer months it's "Long Wednesday", when the village of Tramin comes alive. Shops and boutiques stay open until the evening. Jewellery, wine and food are sold in the streets. Sometimes one group dances Zumba in the village square, while another puts on a fashion show. This is how the villagers themselves present their village life. The culture, the crafts, the customs. Everyone will find their own "favourite stall".

Egetmann parade

"Crazy" takes on a whole new meaning at the Egetmann Parade in Tramin. Every two years, on the last day of carnival, Egetmann Hansl marries his bride. Fish swing through the air and flour is thrown over the spectators. Washerwomen jump into the ice-cold village well. Everyone cheers - a roaring noise through the village. Winter refuses to go away, spring wants to show itself in all its splendour. This foolish, primitive custom is meant to drive away the cold season. The "snapper", with its horns and wild fur, clatters through the crowd. Pursued by butchers and followed by the medieval working class. The parade starts at 2 pm and ends a few wild hours later.

In between, little Egetmann Hansl comes into his own and the children's Egetmann parade takes place. Then the carnival madness comes back to life - in miniature.
