The fresh scent of grass wafts through lush rows of trees. Flowers bloom under the shelter of the vine canopy. The dandelion carries its delicate pollen, granting the walker a wish with every breath of wind.
Cool water rushes through ditches and streams on its way down from the mountain. Under the shady canopy of the forest, the ground is covered with wild blueberries and wild strawberries, which unfold their earthy bouquet protected by the moss. Mountain flowers and herbs abound along the paths. Tramin is surrounded by meadows, woods and mountains. Go up the mountain forest path or down into the apple orchards. Whether you want to take a leisurely stroll and admire the scenery or actively climb the peaks, the valley and the mountain ranges are full of hiking attractions.
Quiet and reliable: the Mendel
To the west, the 2000m high Mendel guards the villages of Tramin, Kaltern and Eppan. It is also an Eldorado for mountain lovers who simply want to enjoy the fresh, wild air without climbing high peaks. The Mendel is easily reached by train from Kaltern. Small tourist shops, unlimited forests. Always beautiful meadows, ski slopes and refuges. Tramin families have always lived here in summer. In the past they used to drag their bags and luggage up with oxen, but now they come by car or train. A hike to the Roen can be done from the Mendel in 3.5 hours. It takes a little longer to walk around the Mendel, but the effort is never too great. Alpine huts and wine taverns are ideal for a break.
Between water lilies and peaks: the Fennberg
To the south-west of Tramin lies the Fennberg. A rustic mountain road leads up to the top, which can be reached by car or, for the more adventurous, by bike. Farmers enjoy the silence, peace and unspoilt nature here to raise cattle, produce milk or grow vegetables. Some wine taverns offer typical Tyrolean dishes, which taste even better on the mountain than in the valley. In summer the Fennberg is a popular destination. It has a picturesque lake, surrounded by woods and meadows, with beautiful water lilies in summer. The Fennberg is ideal for hiking: from leisurely and brisk to strenuous and challenging, everything is possible. Climb peaks, walk for hours under the treetops or hike up and down the mountains.
Alpine pastures and horns: the Regglberg
The Regglberg rises on the eastern side of the valley. Its highest peak is the Weißhorn at just over 2,300 m. The alpine pastures of the lowlands are located on the Regglberg. This mountain range is particularly suitable for hikers, those who enjoy the mountain air, for walkers and for summer holidaymakers. From Aldein you can reach the woods on foot or by car. But the mountain village itself also has its charms. Among cows and horses you will find the traditional South Tyrolean farming culture. The graceful Weisshorn is particularly popular for sunrise hikes: hikers set off at half past three in the morning to be in time to see the golden-red ball of the sun emerge from behind the breathtaking mountain backdrop of South Tyrol.
Where grapes and apples grow: the landscape of the Tramin Valley
In a sea of different shades of green, in the morning and in the evening, in the sun and in the rain, the wide valley of the Unterland offers trails and tours that Tramin's hiking enthusiasts can discover at any time. Farm tracks cross streams, wooded islands cross apple orchards. The vines grow up to the slopes of the surrounding mountains, and in between, in the middle, the experience of the Tramin hiking world awaits you. Culture trails, mountain trails, walking trails and panoramic trails are all waiting to be explored and will show you first-hand how beautiful Tramin is on foot.
